Periods and Borders of Random Words
نویسندگان
چکیده
We investigate the behavior of the periods and border lengths of random words over a fixed alphabet. We show that the asymptotic probability that a random word has a given maximal border length k is a constant, depending only on k and the alphabet size `. We give a recurrence that allows us to determine these constants with any required precision. This also allows us to evaluate the expected period of a random word. For the binary case, the expected period is asymptotically about n− 1.641. We also give explicit formulas for the probability that a random word is unbordered or has maximum border length one. 1998 ACM Subject Classification G.2.1 Combinatorics

متن کاملDyck Words, Lattice Paths, and Abelian Borders
We use results on Dyck words and lattice paths to derive a formula for the exact number of binary words of a given length with a given minimal abelian border length, tightening a bound on that number from Christodoulakis et al. (Discrete Applied Mathematics, 2014). We also extend to any number of distinct abelian borders a result of Rampersad et al. (Developments in Language Theory, 2013) on th...

Reality does not recognize borders. Why we should use the very general term of “reality” and not science, because the borders that we draw are pure delusions, and on the opposite side there is the reality. The laws of the universe, either the physical nature of the world which the scientist studies or metaphysics which is the territory of philosophers, it isthe same reality that rules. Today ma...
